He told ET online back in 2012 about this condition and that he wanted to improve his health to avoid his chronic disease from getting worse.

Baldwin lost weight after following the advice of Pete Davidson, where he supposedly did 100 pushups a day. What might have started as a joke became part of Alec’s life and has helped him achieve a fantastic weight loss!

But that isn’t all he did! His then-girlfriend-now-wife and yoga instructor, Hilaria Baldwin, helped him through his weight loss, often working out with him and preparing healthy meals for them both to enjoy.

Their method involved cutting ‘out all pasta, bread and refined carbohydrates and even fruits,’ teamed with working out every day, which Hilaria said helped him lose, ‘a lot of weight’ and restore his blood sugar levels to a normal level. The sugar was the real killer. This was essential to prevent Alec’s prediabetes from becoming more severe and has been described by his wife as ‘an alarming wake-up call that rocked him to the core,’ without this scary diagnosis, who knows if Alec would have begun his weight loss journey!

Alec Baldwin’s transformation is a spectacular one! We have seen him completely improve his body, with his frame shrinking, his belly disappearing, and he even looks more defined! Moreover, in her 2016 book, The Living Clearly Method, Alec’s wife Hilaria explained that they ‘ate healthy meals and started working out every day.’ Hilaria continues, “this episode completely changed his relationship to eating. By hitting a crisis point, he gained a new perspective on some of the unhelpful habits that became his normal without realizing it.”

And because Hilaria is also a yoga instructor, Alec also did yoga, spin sessions, and pilates for his workout, though he does yoga the least of these three.

Alec Baldwin also followed a meal plan for his weight loss. Appearing on Extra in 2019, Alec revealed how he changed his diet, not just to help with his prediabetes diagnosis but to lose weight too!

He said, “I started juicing in the morning — I don’t eat breakfast. I wanted to lose weight, I was pre-diabetic, and I didn’t want to shoot insulin… Green juices, cashew milk… Trying to eliminate sugar as much as possible.” In addition, he also ate fish, chicken, lean beef, and eggs, as well as some vegetables.

He also shared his list of the top weight loss routines. One thing Alec Baldwin reveals is how he makes sure that every meal he eats is filled with nutrient-rich and healthy foods. So, he says no to food items that brim with sugar, fat, and salt. And as for his drink, Alec sticks to water instead of drinking sodas and coffee as it helps reduce belly fat and helps with blood sugar control. 

Alec made some healthier choices: cutting out food high in sugar and junk food! Alec also follows a vegan diet (a plant based diet), meaning his meals include meat-free protein and dairy alternatives, like the cashew milk mentioned earlier. His being a vegan is for both ethical and health reasons, as exhibited by his cooperation with animal organizations.

Yes, he definitely has maintained his weight. Though Alec Baldwin has victoriously lost significant weight from diet and exercise, he knows this won’t follow through by itself. He needs to maintain the same regimen to ensure that his blood sugar levels are in check.

Do Push-Ups Cause You to Lose Weight?

From what you have read so far, Alec Baldwin did push-ups as per Pete’s made-up exercise advice. The question is if this is enough to cause a significant weight loss as in the case of Baldwin. 

Well, according to Livestrong [1], even rigorous daily push-ups won’t be enough to burn calories that can cause this much weight loss. The American College of Sports Medicine [2] says you should do 250 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio exercise weekly, which is equal to brisk walking and playing tennis. However, this doesn’t mean you should jump right into it even if your body isn’t used to something this intense. This is especially true since too much or extremely rigorous exercises can make you more prone to injury. Practicing moderation is usually still the best.

But even if you did this 250 minutes of push-ups weekly, you’ll only end up with joint pain from overuse. Nothing more.

However, what push-ups can do is help lower your risk of heart attack, heart failure, and other cardiovascular diseases. This is what a study on male firefighters published in the Jama Network [3] revealed. It said that men who did at least 40 push-ups in 30 seconds had a reduced risk of the abovementioned illnesses compared to those who didn’t. 

Now, about pilates, spins, yoga, sit-ups, and other physical activities? You speed up the weight loss process when you combine exercise with a healthy diet. Not only does it help you keep a healthy weight, but it also lowers your risk for heart disease high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes, says the Harvard School of Public Health [5]. 

Alec also changed his diet and, with the help of his wife, ate more healthy meals and went vegan in 2011. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020-2025, a healthy eating plan should include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk products. There should also be a variety of lean protein, such as seeds, nuts, legumes, eggs, poultry, and seafood [4].  

From these, we can say that Alec did a good job of changing his lifestyle with the help of his wife. Even though push-ups and sit-ups weren’t the main reason behind his weight loss, they served their purpose in helping shed pounds and giving Alec his body’s new shape.
